Background
Each year, a new
script is written. While always telling the events of the Passion,
Death and Resurrection of Jesus, we will also, tell the story or
stories of other biblical characters whose lives were affected by
Jesus. One year, the feature was on the Roman Soldier who confessed
that Jesus was the Son of God; another year featured Peter and Judas
and the choices they made regarding accepting forgiveness from
Jesus.
Musically, the
drama features lots of live music, solo and small group singing, as
well as different types of dance and instrumental music. We may
repeat a few songs from year to year, but the search is always on
for new music to make the whole event fresh for the cast AND
audience. For
the church, itself, the play creates a real sense of community. The
cast is usually around 100 people. When you add the band, the tech,
sound and lighting, greeters, ushers, people who help with makeup,
food, etc, etc. it becomes a “church wide” event.
Casting and music
auditions start in January of each year. With 2-3 rehearsals per
week continuing on to the 3 dress rehearsals and 9 performances,
when the production is over, everyone feels like a family.
If you’ve never seen “Easter Alive” before, we invite you to come.
It is our hope, as a church, that this drama would help people to
connect with God in a real and powerful way. It is our privilege to
do have been able to do this for so many years.
